Ezycoat Skim Render
Ezycoat Skim Render is a premixed skim coat consisting of a mixture of varied sized mineral extenders amalgamated with stabilised synthetic powders that allow this product to be mechanically applied using traditional rending methods.
The addition of additives based on Portland cement conforming to AS 3972 produces a leveling render with excellent adhesion and water resistant properties. Ezycoat Skim Render has been specially developed for use on external/internal surfaces that require a rendered finish.
It provides an evenand consistent sand finish when sponged, ready for subsequent paint and/or Texture finishes. Ezycoat Skim Renderis suitable for use as a render or when mixed with Ezycoat Bond in the specified proportions(Refer to Ezycoat Bond Technical Data Sheet-TDS.), can be applied to a minimum thickness of 2.5mm and will exhibit excellent adhesion and strength. Ezycoat Skim Render does not contain Lime, and as such makes it more compatible to Acrylic borne Paints and Texture finishes

Ezycoat Skim Render is an easy to use single step trowel on and/or render pump apply able cement render which is suitable for leveling a range of masonry and cladded mediums (refer to Ezybuild Specs for proprietary building material surfaces treatments &application procedures). It will allow for the sequential application of architectural coatings such as Ezycoat Scratch/Sandstone. (See relevant Data Sheets on these products for additional information.) If this type of finish is not desired, then finishing Ezycoat Skim Render with a sponge float will produce a render like finish quite easily, ready for the subsequent protective paint application.
Before commencing application, ensure that the intended applied surface is free of any contaminants which may affect the performance of the render e.g.silicone coatings, curing oils and/or existing paint. Should this not be the case then our office should be contacted for further advice on assessing the suitability of the surfaces to be coated. Ezycoat Skim Render must not be applied to fibre cement and/or existing painted surfaces. All surfaces must be structurally sound prior to the application of Ezycoat Skim Render. A visual inspection will need to be carried out by the tradesperson and/or building contractor prior to commencement to ensure the suitability of the surface and determine the required method of application.
For Thin Section applications i.e., between 2 to 5mm in thickness per coat, Ezycoat Skim Render must have the addition of a minimum of 10% Ezycoat Bond measured by volume of water added, however the volume of Ezycoat Bond will vary depending on the surface to be coated, this mixing ratio is for suitably prepared Clay Brick & Concrete Block work for other surfaces refer to Ezybuild Specs for other proprietary building material surface applications.
In the case of Thick section application over clay brick or concrete block Ezycoat Skim Render can be applied to a thickness of between 6 to 8mm max. Inone application and will not require the addition Ezycoat Bond.
Manual Mixing Procedure
To mix Ezycoat Skim Render it is recommended that you use a clean empty 20L bucket to accept the volume of mixture from the 20kg Ezycoat Skim Render bag. Filling the bucket with approximately 2 litres of clean potable water and using a high speed mixing drill fitted with a paste mixing blade. The contents of the Ezycoat Skim Render bag should be slowly poured into the bucket whilst operating the mixer. This will be a safer and easier process with the assistance of another individual.
As the Ezycoat Skim Render is poured into the bucket additional water maybe required to produce a smooth workable paste. Normally a total of 3.5 to 4litresof water may need to be added to each bag of Ezycoat Skim Render to achieve a good workable creamy paste. Do Not Add Excess Water.
Once the Ezycoat Skim Render has been vigorously agitated and worked into a smooth compact paste it is ready for application. Using a Plasterer’s Hawk and steel trowel, the Ezycoat Skim Render paste can be scooped onto the Plasterer’s Hawk and in turn evenly spread onto the surface using the steel trowel and finished accordingly.
Pump Mixing Procedure
When using a pump for application, the Ezycoat Skim Render is ready to be poured directly into the hopper. It is essential that the pump specifications be checked prior to commencement of use as specifications may vary from pump manufacturers;if in doubt please contact our offices for further advice on pump requirements.Should the applicating surface exhibit extreme suction that causes unusual quick drying out of the Ezycoat Skim Render it may be necessary to preseal the walls using diluted Ezycoat Bond (Refer to Ezycoat Bond Technical Data Sheet)?
Should the applicating surface have varying undulations then1 coat of Ezycoat Skim Render to specifications should be applied as a level ling coat prior to the final finishing application of Skim Render? Once complete, the surface should be allowed to dry for approximately 48 hours prior to any subsequent Ezycoat Masonry Sealer and Membrane paint finish applications.
This will assist the curing and strengthening process of the Ezycoat Skim Render. It is essential that minimum time lapse occur between the application of the Ezycoat Skim Render and the application of the protective Ezycoat Membrane system. Typically no more than 14 days should lapse between applications of Ezycoat Skim Render & Ezycoat Membrane Paint System.
The application of Ezycoat Skim Render should not be carried out in extremely hot and windy conditions. It is recommended that Ezycoat Skim Render application be carried out in shaded areas where possible. This will assist with ease of application.
Applicators should not apply large areas of Ezycoat Skim Render that they are unable to apply and finish within the Ezycoat Skim Render’s drying period.
Due to the many different proprietary building systems available on the market, it is highly recommended that you contact our offices and request a copy of the Ezycoat specification for the building system you are using. Consumption will vary depending on surface type.
Do not apply in temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius or 24 hrs prior to or after wet & rainy conditions. Do not apply in moist conditions. All walls must be free of moisture prior to application i.e., not exceed a WME of 15%. All surfaces should be cleaned and free of any contaminant, releasing agent, fungal growth which may affect the performance of these coatings. Any imperfections which may become visible in the finished surface should be patched and levelled with Ezycoat Patching compounds.
Any structural imperfections and/or cracks will need to stabilised prior to any further applications. The durability of the product in its original confection is guaranteed for 8monthsas long as it is not exposed to direct sunlight or temperatures below 6 degrees. Ezycoat Skim Render is not suitable for use in areas prone to water logging, submersion, continually damp and/or below ground.
Walls were Ezycoat Skim Render is to be applied must be free draining. In the case of retaining walls the rear of the wall must be engineered to prevent any penetration of moisture or water through the wall in to the rear of the Ezycoat Skim Render.
